WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

MATERNITY

Come to your shoot as relaxed as possible. Wear something that can reveal your belly easily. A fresh manicure with clear polish will enhance the images. Solid black top and bottom along with a white long sleeve shirt or cute sweater/jacket are ideal. Simple colors no patterns. If you plan on taking your portraits using our muslin wrap or sheer material call for additional tips. If additional children/adults will be in the images see below for tips.

NEWBORNS

The ideal time for newborn portraits is during the first two weeks of life. Most are taken au-natural, and a white onesie. Remember you are in the picture too, so be prepared. You will need to make sure your hands are clean and nails trimmed and if polished clear only. As your hand will be holding your new baby in pictures that will be timeless! Men's hands and nails groomed. Black tops and pants for anyone else in the portraits. Keep it simple.

BABIES

One piece white or light colored t-shirt. Two or three changes of clothing, you can bring more and we can help you decide. Stripes, floral, plaids, characters, logos and other large prints are not recommended. Solids or tone-on-tone textures are preferred. Choose classic lines and timeless styles. Avoid strong primary colors. Choose muted colors that do not compete with natural skin tones. If the adult is to be in the images, white top and black pants are classics that work best. Bring a hairbrush or comb, for girl's small ribbons, headbands or barrettes if you use them.

TODDLERS AND CHILDREN

Casual look white or light colored t-shirt, blue jeans overalls or jumpers. Traditional look, light colored shirts, khakis, navy, brown and black. Dresses; white, pastel or light in color no busy patterns, solids are best. See the above description for Babies, these same suggestions apply. We want this to be a relaxed and enjoyable time for you and your child.

STUDENT PORTRAITS

Clothing should be selected that will enhance the overall image and not be a distraction to the eye, taking the focus off you! Avoid iridescent and shiny fabrics and jewelry because they reflect light. Avoid clothing with wording, except for your school logo. Avoid large prints or patterns and plunging necklines that detract from your face. Do not worry about blemishes or minor breakouts they can easily be retouched.

Vary your dress level; it is a good idea to bring some dressy clothing along with varying levels of casual clothing. Bring several outfits, but be sure to bring a variety of colors to your photo session. Select fabrics that will not show wrinkles such as knits. Show your interests with personal props, varsity jacket, instruments, uniforms, etc. We encourage you to bring anything that exemplifies your personality. Polish your shoes and do not forget socks or nylons depending on the style of the session. Summer tans are fun, avoid sunburn or excessive tanning, look natural, but beware of tan lines. Ladies, keep your make-up natural and fresh; bring makeup, a brush, hair spray, etc. for those quick touch ups. Guys, be sure to shave just before your appointment, if you have a beard or mustache, make sure it is neatly trimmed.

Have your hair cut about one week before the portrait session. Be sure your nails, hands and feet, are well groomed. Bring your class ring or other special jewelry. If you wear glasses, wear them in your portrait, but if possible remove lenses. Plan to wear your hair in a style you are comfortable with, avoid new cuts or styles.

Colors: White or pastel colors are perfect for lighter backgrounds. Casual outfits in earth tones work best for outdoor photographs. Middle tones or deeper solid colors are ideal for formal portraits. Softer shades bring a more casual flair and look best with light hair and fair complexions. Medium to dark shades bring a timeless look to your portraits and look best with dark hair and complexions.

ADULT AND FAMILY PORTRAITS

Studio: Wear solid colors that compliment one another. Outdoors: Casual outfits (khaki,white,jeans,navy,black) work best for outdoor photographs.
